Investor Visas

Introduction

As well as Investor Visa processing we offer a number of finance options to help you successfully relocate to the UK.

We understand that your assets may not be readily available to you as cash, or that converting them to cash may not always be the best financial decision and so in addition we can introduce you to a major investment bank where you can handle your own investments or make use of the finance options detailed below.

For applicants using either of the private banking options our fees are paid by the investment bank but should you wish for us to just handle your visa application then please click here for a detailed breakdown of our fees.

Do I qualify to come to the UK as an Investor?

Like most countries the UK welcomes wealthy individuals. As an investor in the UK economy, you and your immediate family can gain permanent residence by satisfying the following criteria:

  • Have money of your own under your control in the United Kingdom amounting to no less than £1 million

    or

  • Own personal assets which have a value exceeding £2 million, taking into account any liabilities to which you are subject, and have money under your control in the United Kingdom amounting to no less than £1 million. This may include money loaned to you provided that it is loaned by a financial institution regulated by the UK Financial Services Authority. UK Working is able to help you arrange these loans which are secured on your UK investments.

  • You must invest not less than £750,000 of your capital in the United Kingdom by way of United Kingdom Government bonds, share capital or loan capital in active and trading United Kingdom registered companies (other than those principally engaged in property investment and excluding deposits with a bank, building society or other enterprise whose normal course of business includes the acceptance of deposits)
  • The remaining £250,000 may be invested as you wish.

  • The remaining criteria are:

  • Are able to maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants without taking employment (other than self employment or business)
  • You may not take employment beyond managing your investments.
  • You must make the UK your main home, you do not need to spend all your time in the UK, but you should spend at least 50% of your time here.
  • Financing options

Your assets may not be readily available to you as cash, or converting them to cash may not be the best financial decision for you. We are able to help arrange a financing service through a Major UK-based Investment Bank to help you meet the investment requirements of the UK Government's Investor Programme.

For example, you would remit approximately £200,000 to the bank. Upon approval of your initial immigration application by the UK Home Office, they would make available a loan which you would then use to make your investment. This would fulfil the government requirement of £1,000,000 invested in the UK investor programme. To help safeguard the investment and the loan, the investment bank will offer a range of eligible investments you can make.

    Cash Options

You may choose to make the entire £1,000,000 investment in the UK Investor Programme yourself, through a Private Bank. Again we can assist you with this. If you choose this option, you remit to the bank the amount required to purchase the eligible Home Office investment and any applicable fees.

Once you have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain, depending on your investment, you will receive whatever cash is left in the account. This sum will include your initial investment plus interest.

If you choose to make the entire £1,000,000 investment in the UK Immigrant Investor Programme the Bank can offer you the option to borrow against your investment, using your investment as security.

    Services
The following services are included in all the Private Bank immigration options:

    3. Loan facility to complete your four year investment, should you choose to finance your investment
    4. Regular monitoring to make sure your investment account meets the Government requirements
    5. Full range of private banking services upon your arrival in the UK
    6. Introduction to other experts within the Bank for advice on areas such as property and insurance

    What about My Family?

You may apply for your spouse and children to accompany you as your dependants.

    Education

Your children entering the UK as your dependants are entitled to the same free education as British children. You may choose to send your children to a private school if you wish.

    Health care

You and your family are eligible to free health care provided by the National Health Service. You are not required to take out private health insurance.

Am I able to make the UK my home on a permanent basis?

Your initial visa will be valid for a period of 12 months. It will be based on your demonstrated assets and your stated plans, but no investment need occur before the visa is issued.

Within 3 months of your arrival in the UK you should have transferred the funds to the UK.

At the end of your first 12 months in the UK, you may apply for your visa to be extended for a further 3 years. This application will normally be successful as long as

    • You transferred the funds to the UK within 3 months of arrival,
    • Any reduction in the value of your investment in the UK is due solely to fluctuations in share price,
    • The total level of the investment is still in excess of £1 million(subject to above).

If, during your first 12 months, the value of you UK portfolio falls below £1 million then your application to extend your visa will be closely scrutinised, and in some circumstances you may not get your extension.

After a total of 4 years in the UK you may apply for indefinite leave to remain (Permanent Residence). A year after being granted indefinite leave to remain you may apply for naturalisation as a British citizen. Click here for further details
